Today’s press is covering the shock death of NBC’s "Meet the Press" moderator and one of the leading political journalists Tim Russert.

His colleague and former NBC anchor Tom Brokaw broke the news on NBC and its sister station MSNBC shortly after 3:40pm.

Russert had just returned from a family vacation in Italy, celebrating his son’s graduation, and was recording voiceovers for his "Meet the Press" broadcast when he collapsed. He was rushed to Sible Memorial Hospital in Washington, where resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

The cause of death, according to his physician Michael Newman, said that there was a rupture in his artery, causing sudden coronary thrombosis. He had been earlier diagnosed with asymptomatic coronary artery disease, but it was controlled by medication and exercise, and performed will on a stress test in last April.

More coverage can be found on CNN, Politico, MSNBC (where he worked) and NY Times.
