15 cents for just an extra 2GB? Hell no!

Optus has this weird thing on your internet where you have to pay an extra 15c for every MB, with a maximum of 2GB. This is absurd, and outrageous.

It’s just another money-making scheme, where we are in a middle of paying higher interest rates and many of us losing our homes or have to cut back spending. These, however, are making additional hell. And I’m facing it.

And plus, since we are now tech-savvy, we will easily take the 2GB instantly; meaning we are losing in the family budget of $300. This is what I call greedy.

And now let’s compare the fat cats from Optus with Exetel (and 360NET, since they resell them), a much better provider. While we are losing $300 for 2GB, Exetel’s plans have an excess charge gigabyte. This means that with Exetel/360NET, you can just waste $6.00 for the same 2GB excess, with no limitations.

And I might be facing more than $300, because their counter does not stop from 2GB; it stopped at nearly 3GB. That makes them more greedy. That money is just going straight to the bank accounts of their executives, and even worst, leaving 1% to their “technical support” in Bangladesh, India or wherever the f**k they are.

Hell, and I’m not proud of saying this; this action makes Telstra look good. Hell, I might be happy if the OPEL group did not make the regional Wi-Max network.

Come on Optus, why do you need to screw me and every one of your customers around. Give us a break.

Now, if you excuse me, I need to light a candle. This way, I could save hundreds of dollars from the electricity bill to save myself from getting the ass kicked from my house.

Shame on you!

Is there really an iPhone shortage?

It has been reported that the Apple so-called ‘God Machine’, a.k.a the iPhone, are now at short supply. Many people are speculating that there is going to be a new version of the iPhone, more likely the rumoured 3G version.

However, analyst for American Technology Research Shaw Wu said that Apple would sell 11 million phones by the end of 2008 - 10% more than the company said. He said that this was because of the new model, wider adoption of the iPhone among businesses and the price cuts.

In Australia, the only closest thing to the iPhone is the iPod touch; and I won’t get my hopes excited if it manages to get into Australia. Apple has a long-running tradition of breaking many hearts of Australians like the movie rentals service not reaching here.

But who will get the iPhone if it reaches in Australia. There would be four possible options. One would see Telstra, Optus or Vodafone selling it exclusively.

However, Apple could sell it unlocked and that could see a wider adoption to customers in Australia. This comes after law experts from QUT (Queensland University of Technology) say that if it signs an ‘exclusive’ agreement with either Telstra, Optus or Vodafone it would break competition laws in Australia.

Another way could see Telstra/Vodafone and Optus having the deals. Telstra is actively searching for people who would help their search company Sensis to develop iPhone versions of their websites; while Optus could be given the rights too as it’s parent company Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) were rumoured to have talks with Apple on getting the license for the entire Asia-Pacific region.

Optus and Vodafone could also ‘joint-bid’ for the rights to sell the iPhone through their 3G networks. Both currently have an agreement to share both their network sites and radio infrastructure in the metropolitan areas.

But the first one sounds more plausible than the other three hypothetical scenarios as they have other exclusive agreements with AT&T in the US, Orange in France, O2 in the UK and T-Mobile in Germany.

But hey, there might be a possibility that Apple may not release it here at all. Like I said, there are competition laws and if it was illegal, then it can’t be sold here. Again, like I said, Apple has a long-running history of breaking hearts here in Australia.
