Welcome to Crystalline Journal - our own theme!

After in June when we launch Crystalline Blue for TECHGEEK, we added The Journal as one who will be getting it as well. And now we have lived up to that promise. Welcome to Crystalline Journal.

As you can see, we have stuck with the serif font, and made the headlines and those colour-specific things into a dark colour. Another change would be that we are now in white, and a categories section. We also have a new logo, but the link colour is the same.

As well, The Journal’s team will merge with TECHGEEK’s team, so to easily gives many of our editors two options to write their story. We are looking of installing Wordpress MU, but that might be difficult once we add the fact that we can’t do wildcards.

But, that’s a whole other story.

Sims Movie???

Has Fox gone insane??

The Sims is a strategic life-simulation game developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts.

In 2009, 20th Century Fox have chosen Electronic Arts’ The Sims and make it into a movie. But How? The movie isn’t going to be using the character models and environments like in the game, it’s going to be a Live Action Movie! It is said that the storyline is based on the games story line and is said to be one of Fox’s worst movie ideas yet!!

Question:

What game (other than Sims) would be interesting to make into a movie?

The Journal goes Political

After a few months deciding and waiting who will be the Democratic presumptive nominee, we can now say that The Journal will cover the US election 2008. Unlike the Australian election coverage last year, this will not appear on TECHGEEK but on The Journal and will feature only me. As well, we will provide some of the political news wherever we can.

The political coverage for the US Election 2008 will start tomorrow. I may not be the only blogger who wants to participate in the coverage. But if you want to participate, register today and give me your username at terencehuynh@reawaken.info (copy and paste).

WTF? It’s Slow Updating Time

I should have posted this on Monday, but this will have to do - since it will be the final day of it. All of our editors are focusing on their exams, well except Stewart since we don’t know his exam days. Anyway, all of us have been slowly putting up news.

We will resume to normal soon, like Saturday. But, I think you are wondering - If I was exams, how can I still be typing this. And, No - there is no ghost writer. The only time I can update is early in the morning. I can still update in the afternoon - If I don’t fall asleep.

So - remember, we are back to normal transmission on Saturday!

Goodbye reawakennetworks - hello reawaken Media

Terence Huynh
13 May 2008, 20:55

Since this is a blog about anything, reawakennetworks will now become reawaken Media. This will succeed pointzero Media as the reawakennetworks will become three companies again.

Over recent controversies with StormX.info and Terence’s Journal, we believe that it would be safer if we severe ties now before it would be a burden on all members.

The partnership between the three will still exist, but not as one company. The Board of Directors have been dissolved.

I, as the new owner of reawaken Media, will take all questions and comments. Email them to me at terencehuynh@reawaken.info.

So where are we?

As well, we need to think of a title for this site. If you have any, please send it to us?

I will try get this blog updated, but it may take time…

Anti-CNN group hacked sports sites

FROM TECHGEEK.com.au > An anti-CNN group promoting to hack the site has hacked into two sites relating to sports, one under the CNN.com’s Sports Illustrated name.

Sportsnetwork.com and sports.si.cnn.com were both hacked Early Sunday, with the former still showing the message written by the group.

"Tibet WAS,IS,and ALWAYS WILL BE a part of China!" it says.

"We are not against the western media, but against the lies and fabricated stories in the media."

These anti-western stance was caused by the media’s reporting in the Tibetan region, where rioting and violence have occurred in the lead up in the Beijing Olympic Games. Protests are actively campaigning for the former state of Tibet to be free from China’s Communist rule.

As well, TechCrunch is reporting that many Chinese MSN users are adding "Love China" to combat against the anti-Western stance.

On the forums of "Hack CNN", via a translation from Google Translator; there is a special forum dedicated to the hacking, dubbed the "Core Area", is password protected.

As well, they offer people a download of a piece of software which, what TECHGEEK understands, is that the software would crash the servers of CNN if it was used by many people. They also suggest that you go put it up in your Startup folder so it would run automatically.

However, hackers thought taking down the SI site was CNN’s sports site. They are both owned by the same company, yet they are two different properties that share the cnn.com domain.

MySQL sells out Open Source Community

The darling of the Open Source world is facing an uprising against its customers after plans to reserve some key features and their source code to paying users for the next version.

Officials at Sun Microsystems, the new owner of MySQL after buying it in February, has confirmed that a new online backup capabilities will be given to MySQL Enterprise customers, not to the larger and free Community edition. The backup capabilities are still under development.

This is the second time that customers have been angry with MySQL. Last August saw it taking criticism from its customer base after an decision to stop making the Enterprise source code available to those who don’t have paid subscriptions.

eBay hanging up on Skype?

19 April 2008, 2:23

GigaOM, and The Financial Times, are saying that the online auction firm will test Skype for so-called “synergies”, and if they aren’t that strong; it will reassess the division.

Skype was purchased by eBay for a potential payout of $4.1 billion; but eBay wrote down the value by $1.4 billion, admitting that they had overpaid for it.

Who do you think will buy Skype?

Hello, my name is Terence Huynh and I am the Editor in Chief for both the TECHGEEK Blog and the brand new blog, The Journal.

This brand new blog is going to celebrate anything on technology, gadgets and even the web videos. Our writers will also write their opinions on this site, and also some of the opinions will be taken off some sites with their permission.

The Journal will be written by me and some of the TECHGEEK staff, but we hope to have some ‘Journal-specific’ staff working on this blog. James Davis, one of our veteran writers, will be taking day-to-day control of the blog, but I will still have the final say of what happens.
